CAMPING ON THE ISLAND OF SYLT

From Easter to October, campers and caravaners have the choice between several beautiful campsites on Sylt. Those who like travelling light can simply rent one of the many comfortable caravans. If you plan to come in the peak season between July and September, however, it is strongly advisable to book in advance, as Sylt is very popular and wild camping is strictly prohibited throughout the island. One reason, though not the only one, is that more than 50 percent of the island is a nature reserve.
WESTERLAND
The largest campsite is south of Westerland, nestled idyllically between dunes and woods, only a few minutes’ walk from the beach and the town centre. The spacious site is equipped with electricity hook-ups, washing machines, tumble driers, ironing facilities and even a motor caravan service point and a playground. The on-site restaurant and beer garden look forward to welcoming you as their guests.

HÖRNUM
The campsite furthest south is tucked away in the picturesque dunes close to the beach on the way to Hörnum. Electricity hook-ups, sanitary facilities for the disabled, washing machines, tumble driers, a motor caravan service point and a TV room ensure a comfortable camping experience. The site has a separate area for dogs and their owners as well as a dining room for groups.

RANTUM
Halfway between Hörnum and Westerland, Rantum’s campsite is set in an interesting location between the open sea and tidal shallows.
It has five modern sanitary blocks, all of them with free hot showers, some with washing machines and tumble driers. Kids love the big playground and grown-ups the restaurant “Stauderstuben”, the bakery and the shop selling beach gear and leisure and camping equipment.

TINNUM
Tinnum’s campsite is situated just outside the village, on the edge of far-flung meadows. Facilities include all-weather caravan pitches, a mobile caravan service point, sanitary blocks including disabled facilities, free hot showers, washing machines, tumble driers, and baby bathtubs. For our young guests, we have a big playground and a children’s cinema. The site has its own restaurant and small food shop. No dogs allowed between 15 June and 1 September.

MORSUM
Spacious and quietly situated, the island’s easternmost campsite extends between Morsum’s village centre and the dyke. Facilities include heated sanitary blocks with private cubicles, washing machines, tumble driers, a kitchen, solarium, chemical disposal point, public telephone and small on-site shop. Besides, campers can take advantage of a BBQ area, a large grass play area and a recreation room.

WENNINGSTEDT
Wenningstedt’s campsite is fringed by dunes, only a few steps from the beach and the village centre. The comfortable facilities include a modern sanitary block with free showers, separate family shower rooms for mums and toddlers, washing machines, tumble driers and recreation rooms. During the peak season, the site offers beach gymnastics and children’s entertainment. If you prefer taking it easy, there’s also a cosy restaurant on site.

Last but not least, Kampen’s campsite is nestled idyllically between dunes and woods, only a stone’s throw from the beach. Facilities include electricity hook-ups, cable TV/radio access and a chemical disposal point.
